Achilles Tendonitis/ Tendinopathy
Achilles tendinopathy involves inflammation or degeneration of the Achilles tendon due to overuse, poor footwear, or biomechanical issues. It is common among runners and active individuals.
-
Pain and stiffness in the back of the heel
Swelling or thickening of the tendon
Morning stiffness or pain after activity
-
Physical exam and ultrasound help confirm tendon involvement and assess for partial tears.
-
Non-surgical management includes eccentric strengthening, heel lifts, and shockwave therapy. Persistent cases may benefit from minimally invasive debridement or biologic augmentation.
-
Symptoms often improve within 8–12 weeks of therapy; surgical recovery may take 3–4 months.
