Jones/Metatarsal Fractures

Jones fractures are fractures of the fifth metatarsal base, while other metatarsal fractures can occur in any of the long bones of the foot. They often result from twisting injuries or direct trauma.

  • X-rays confirm fracture location and displacement. CT may be used for complex fractures or nonunions.

  • Non-displaced fractures may heal with immobilization and limited weight-bearing.

Displaced or chronic fractures may require minimally invasive screw fixation.

  • Healing typically takes 6–8 weeks; athletes may return to sport within 10–12 weeks post-surgery.
