Midfoot Arthritis
Midfoot arthritis involves degeneration of the joints in the midfoot, often following prior injury or chronic overuse. It can cause pain, swelling, and difficulty fitting into shoes.
-
Pain in the midfoot during weight-bearing activities
Swelling and stiffness
Difficulty with push-off when walking
-
Diagnosis is based on physical examination and imaging, including weight-bearing X-rays or CT scans.
-
Non-surgical: Orthotics, bracing, anti-inflammatory medications, physical therapy, injections.
Surgical/minimally invasive: Fusion of affected midfoot joints can relieve pain, sometimes performed via minimally invasive techniques to reduce recovery time.
-
Walking ability is usually restored within 6–12 weeks after surgery, with full functional recovery over several months.
