Osteochondral/ Cartilage Injuries of the Foot

These injuries involve cartilage damage in the midfoot or forefoot joints, often secondary to trauma or repetitive impact in running and jumping sports.

Osteochondral Cartilage Injury Foot
    • Localized foot pain and swelling

    • Stiffness or decreased range of motion

    • Pain during push-off or loading the forefoot

  • X-rays and MRI are essential to visualize cartilage damage and determine the extent of injury.

  • Conservative care includes rest, immobilization, and custom orthotics. Arthroscopic or minimally invasive debridement and cartilage restoration techniques may be indicated for persistent pain or large defects.

  • Return to full activity generally occurs within 3–6 months following arthroscopic treatment.
