Osteochondral/ Cartilage Injuries of the Foot
These injuries involve cartilage damage in the midfoot or forefoot joints, often secondary to trauma or repetitive impact in running and jumping sports.
-
Localized foot pain and swelling
Stiffness or decreased range of motion
Pain during push-off or loading the forefoot
-
X-rays and MRI are essential to visualize cartilage damage and determine the extent of injury.
-
Conservative care includes rest, immobilization, and custom orthotics. Arthroscopic or minimally invasive debridement and cartilage restoration techniques may be indicated for persistent pain or large defects.
-
Return to full activity generally occurs within 3–6 months following arthroscopic treatment.
