Posterior Tibial Tendon Injuries

Posterior tibial tendon injuries can range from tendinitis to partial tears, often resulting in progressive flatfoot deformity. These injuries are common in middle-aged adults and athletes who place repetitive stress on the arch.

Anterior Ankle Impingement
    • Medial ankle and arch pain

    • Swelling and tenderness along the tendon

    • Flattening of the arch or difficulty standing on tiptoe

  • Physical examination and imaging (MRI or ultrasound) assess tendon integrity and the degree of associated deformity.

    • Non-surgical:  Bracing, orthotics, physical therapy, anti-inflammatory medications.

    • Surgical/minimally invasive:  Tendon repair, tendon transfer, or flatfoot reconstruction using arthroscopic or minimally invasive techniques for advanced cases.

  • Conservative management may improve symptoms within 3–6 months. Post-surgical recovery typically requires 4–6 months with structured rehabilitation.
